Terms of Service — Yukigo (beta)

Who we are

Yukigo is an app for learning Japanese, provided by its developer ("we"). Contact: support@yukigo.app

By using the app or the yukigo.app website you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the service.

Beta phase

Yukigo is in a test phase (beta). This means: some features may change, be discontinued or contain errors; the service may be temporarily suspended; despite our efforts to prevent it, data loss is possible. We recommend not entrusting Yukigo with data you cannot afford to lose.

The service

Yukigo offers lessons, exercises, reviews and tools for studying Japanese (including JLPT exam preparation). The content is for educational purposes: we do not guarantee that you will pass any exam or achieve specific results.

Everything is free during the beta

Using Yukigo during the beta is free. In the future, some features may become paid (for example via a subscription). If that happens: we will tell you clearly in advance, you will never be charged without an explicit purchase made through the app store, and the terms governing subscriptions (prices, renewal, cancellation, any free trials) will be added to this page before they take effect.

Account

An account is optional. If you create one, you agree to: provide accurate information; keep your credentials confidential; use a single personal account. You are responsible for the activity carried out with your account. You can delete it at any time from the app settings (see also the privacy policy).

Acceptable use

You agree not to: use the service for unlawful purposes; interfere with its operation or attempt to access other people's systems or data; extract, bulk-copy or redistribute the learning content; decompile or reverse engineer the app, except where mandatory law allows it; use the AI tutor for purposes other than studying Japanese or attempt to circumvent its limitations; choose a display name that is offensive, misleading or infringes the rights of others.

In the event of serious or repeated violations we may suspend or close your account, notifying you when reasonably possible.

AI tutor (Yuki)

The tutor's answers are generated by artificial intelligence and may contain errors or inaccuracies: verify them before relying on them; they are not professional advice. Questions are subject to a daily limit, which may change. Please do not include personal data (yours or anyone else's) in your questions to the tutor.

Intellectual property

Yukigo's content (lessons, explanations, exercises, artwork, the Yuki mascot, the name and the logo) is protected and remains ours or that of its respective owners. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use it only for your own study. Some third-party components (for example kanji data and stroke-order paths) are used under their respective open licences, listed in the app's "Credits" section.

Your content and feedback

It remains yours. If you send us feedback, suggestions or reports, you allow us to use them freely to improve Yukigo, with no obligation towards you.

Warranties and liability

The service is provided "as is", with no guarantee of continuous availability, absence of errors or fitness for a particular purpose — to the extent permitted by law. Also to the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect damages (for example: loss of study data, failure to pass an exam). Nothing in these terms excludes or limits rights that the law grants you in a mandatory way, including the consumer rights of your country of residence.

Changes to the service and to these terms

We may change the service (especially during the beta) and these terms. In the case of substantial changes we will point it out via the app or the website; continuing to use Yukigo after the change counts as acceptance. The date at the top indicates the latest version.

Governing law

These terms are governed by Portuguese law, without prejudice to the mandatory rights you hold as a consumer in your country of habitual residence.

Minors

Yukigo is not intended for children under 14. If you are a minor, use the service with the consent of a parent or guardian.
